Ch. 21

In chapter 21 Henry and his regiment join the rest of the army. But the rest of the army still looks down on the men. What felt like a major success to Henry's regiment was really just a small victory. The Lieutenant that had said that they fought like mules put them down again. All of Henry's regiment is pissed at the world. But a solider comes up to Henry and Wilson and say that they are the best fighters in the regiment.
My question is: How can they say that Henry and Wilson are the best when the didn't even fight in the last battle?

Ch. 20

In chapter 20 Henry sees that his regiment and the others are being driven back and that they will probaly lose. However instead of running away like he would have before he takes the flag from Wilson and urges his regiment to fight. They fight and they win the battle. They all feel wonderful about themselves and think that they can take on anything.
My question is: Why didn't they tell the men? I think that it would have helped them just like it did Henry in this chapter.

Ch. 19

In chapter 19 Henry and Wilson come back to their regiment. They do not share the news with the other men. The Lieutenants said that they didn't expect Henry's regiment to survive the next attack. The officer of Henry's regiment gets them ready for battle and they charge the enemy. They stop twice but get pushed onward. Henry and Wilson see one of their comrades carrying their armies colors and follow him. He gets shot and they both pick up the flag and charge into battle.
My question is: Why is the flag so important?

Ch. 18

In chapter 18 Henry and his regiment are fighting deep in the woods. One of the officers gets hit and screams out in pain. Henry and Wilson think there is a stream nearby and they go to get water. They do not find a stream but a good vantage point of the battle. Henry and Wilson over hear the Lieutenants speaking and one of them askes what regiment can be used to fortify a weak position. And they say Henry's regiment because they don't fight well.
My question is: Why didn't the go back and fight?

Ch. 17

In chapter 17 Henry, Wilson, and their regiment are fighting the other army and Henry just keeps shooting and reloading. He is relentless and even keeps shooting after the other army had run away. The Lieutenant and the other men in the regiment notice this and say that if they had a regiment of men like Henry this war would be over in no time. During the battle Henry even thinks that he might have been shot but he keeps fighting. He has matured greatly and I hope he is done running.
My question is: Why didn't they chase the other army?

Henry has always been refered to as the youth. Wilson on the other hand has been called the loud solider, and the friend. The reason why Wilson isn't called the loud solider now is because he has matured from the first half of the book. In the first half of the book he says to Henry that he will fight and have courage. But just a short time later he is afraid that he is going to die. Henry and Wison both get hardend by the war. And I'm sure that they will have both of there names changed later in the book.

Ch. 16

In chapter 16 Henry and the other men are all talking about why they are fighting, and why they keep losing to the other army. Henry believes that it is because of the General. Wilson thinks that it will all work out in the end and Henry doesn't agree with him. One of the other men in Henry's regament askes Henry if he fought all of the last battle and Henry thought that he was going to get caught but the other man didn't know anything. The Lieutenant yells at Henry to shut up because he is talking instead of getting ready to fight.
My question is: Why isn't Henry nervous? He is about to go into another battle.

Ch. 15

In chapter 15 Henry and his comrades are marching down a road and he is standing next to Wilson. Henry remembers that he is carrying Wilson's letters and want to give them back to him he says Wilson's name but then sees that Wilson is ready for battle or something. Henry quickly changes that subject and drops it. Then they talk about what giving the letters to Wilson would mean and I didn't get that part. But then Wilson remembers and Henry gives them back to him. Wilson thanks Henry and Henry feels good about himself.
My question is: Are they going to go fight?

Ch. 14

In chapter 14 Henry wakes up and his head hurts. Wilson changes the bandages on his head and they get some grub. Later there is a fight in the camp and Wilson goes and breaks it up. Henry notices that Wilson has changed a great deal after he has fought in many battles. Wilson has become a man even though he is about Henry's age. Wilson tells Henry that he thought most of the men in the 304th of New York where killed yesterday but it seemed to him now that most where just seperated and fighting with other regiments. Wilson remarks that Henry was one of these people, but he wasn't. Henry also tells Wilson that Jim is dead.
My question is: Does Henry still have Wilson's letters?

1.Henry's comment was that he envied the people with a red badge of courage. He was talking about he wounded. A wound to him would prove his valor and strength. He wishes that he could be like the wounded and have a red badge of courage.

2.The tattered man symbolizes a real solider someone who has courage and strength. He is the opposite of Henry who is a coward and is weak. Having the tattered man in the book helps you see who Henry really is.

3.Henry sometimes talks about his mother. Before he left she told him not to do anything that he wouldn't tell her. I think she told him to run too. Her role would be the person that Henry is trying to get back to. The reason why he can't die.

4. I don't remember how he used the squrriel to justify his actions but I'm going to try. When Henry threw the pine cone at the squrriel it ran away, much like he would in the face of danger. And if it is an animals first instinct to run away that since he is an animal too it kinda justifies his actions.

CH. 13

In chapter 13 Henry is walking toward the camp that the man with the cherry voice pointed out. And trys to sneak into the camp but Wilson, a guy who I thought was dead, stoped him and Henry told him that he had been shot in the head. Wilson takes him to an officer and he tells Henry that it just grazed him. He said it was like someone had just hit him on the head. Wilson nurses Henry and Henry is thankful.
My question is: Why isn't Wilson dead? It said that he died back in another chapter.

Ch. 12

In chapter 12 Henry watches the men he had seen earily on the road fighting. The men where overtaken and they all started running his way. When they got to Henry, Henry grabed one of them and asked him why they lost. The man just smashes in Henrys face and keeps running. Henry is in a daze and doesn't know where he is. A man with a cherry voice takes him by the arm and askes him what regiment he is in and Henry tells him and they go to the camp. But the man with the cherry voice doesn't go with him and I think that the man was from the other army.
My question is: Why didn't the other army chase the soliders that Henry had see?

Ch. 11

In chapter 11 Henry hears the battle raging and it sonds like he is getting closer. He sees a group of soliders heading toward the battle and he feels ashamed and he almost goes out into battle with them but rembers that he does not have a gun, he is tired, and he is also starving. So basicly he makes up some stuff so that he does not have to go out into the battle. He could have found a gun on the field. Then he tries to make up an excuse so that the soliders in camp won't make fun of him but he can't.
My question is: Where did his gun go? Why wouldn't he carry a pistol on him? But I think back in thoes days only the officers got to carry pistols.

Ch. 10

In chapter 10 Henry and the tattered man are saying how brave and strong Jim was to have mustared all that strenght even when he shouldn't be able to even walk. Henry leaves the tattered man behind later. But he wakes up when the tattered man is trying to walk around. The tattered man tells Henry how he got wounded and he says that he can't die because he has a family. He also say that Henry is looking a little pale and should have his wound looked at. When the tattered man says that Henry runs away and leaves the tattared man. Leaving him to die alone. The tattared man yells after Henry but Henry fells that no one can know his "crime."
My question is: If Henry knew that the tattared man was going to die then why didn't he just stay with him, and tell him his secret? He was going to anyway.

CH. 9

In chapter nine Henry has fallen back in the line until he could no longer see the tattered man. There must have been alot of wonded. Henry is evnvyous of the wonded soilders and he describes there wounds as a "red badge of courage". He sees the wound as a proof of valor and wishes he had been wounded, he could have been if he wasn't such a coward. Later he runs into Jim and Jim tells him he had been shot. Henry tells Jim that he will take care when the tattered man comes up to Henry and yells that something is comeing down the road and it will run them over. Jim gets scared and he trys running away. He dies while trying to run. Herny gets angry and heads toward the battlefield.
My qestion is: Why wasn't Jim with Henry?

Ch. 8

In chapter 8 Henry is heading toward a battle not to fight in it but merely to watch it. He later comes across a band of wounded men and he joins them. While walking one of the wounded comes up and talks to him. They call this man the tattared soildier. The Tattared Soildier keeps trying to talk to Henry praising the army for fighting with such bravery and courage, but Henry feels guilty because he did not stay and fight he ran. And when the Tattared Soildier askes him where he had been hit and Henry runs off, again.

My question is: Why wouldn't Herny stay with the injured? He could have done more to help them then the army.

Ch. 7

In chapter 7 Henry out in the woods alone. He is thinking that he is the smartes guy in the world for running and he thinks that his comrades are the stupidist people. But he is only gelous that they are brave and strong while he is weak and a coward. After awhile in the woods he finds a dead soilder with ants crawling all over his face and it scares him too. So guess what he runs some more. Herny is a coward.
And my qestion is: Why doesn't Henry just quit and go home?

Ch. 6

In the beging of chapter 6 Henry and his comrades just won a battle and they are all prasing each other but then the enemy attacks again and Herny doesn't feel like he is part of something anymore and after some of the other men run he also decides to run, like a coward. He runs past one of his officers and he wants to hurt him but he over hears that the battle was won. So he ran for no reason and my opinon of Henry has changed again he is a coward and the battle would have been won easier if he and the other cowards whould have stayed and fought.
My question is: Why hasen't Henry been diciplined yet for his cowrdlynice?

Ch. 5

In chapter 5 Henry is again fighting with the enemy but in this battle Henry changes he realizes that is part of something, he is part of a group of people how are fighting for what they belive in and he is a soldier. This change in Henry has really changed my opinion about him. He is a better man. But any way in this chapter he is fighting with his comrades and an officer is giving them orders. One of his fellow soldiers tries to run away but he is stoped and beaten by the officer. The other army retreats as there officer dies.
My question is: Why wasnt Jim in this chapter? Did I miss something?

Ch. 4

In chapter 4 Henry and his comrades are fighting and some of the soldiers are talking about some kind of officer or something and the Lieutenant gets shot in the hand. Henry isn't a very brave soldier and he often thinks of running. He shouldn't be in that war. He and his comrades are fighting in a grove and it doesn't say how the battle ends. This must be the civil war because I've heard about he blue uniforms and yellow uniforms, and I belive that that is what they wore in the civil war. And some other characters where mentioned but they are not important.
My question is: When Henry says he is going to become a blue demonstration, what does he mean I know he is talking about his uniform but I don't understand.

Ch. 3

In chapter 3 the youth(Henry) is sleeping when the tall soldier(Jim) wakes him up and they run into battle. The youth feels that he is being pushed by a mob, meaning that he feels that the only reason why he is going into battle is because they are making him. The soldiers pass by a dead soldier and the youth looks into his eyes and studies the body. He is trying to find out whatever he can from the dead soldier. When the youth is off by himself not really in the battle the Lieutenant comes by him and tapes him with his sword and tells him that he is doing no good standing off by himself. At the end of the chapter the loud one(Wilson) is dieing and tells the youth to take his letters to his parents.
My question is: Was the dead soldier a comrade or an enemy?

Ch. 2

No new characters are introduced in this chapter. In this chapter Henry is still questioning his courage and he says that the only way he will know is in a battle. Jim was wrong about going into battle, however they did start to march and Henry asks Wilson if he would run in a fight and Wilson says to him that he would do his fair share of fighting.
My question is what war are they fighting, who are they fighting?

Ch. 1

In this chapter two characters where named and another just mentioned. They where Henry, Jim, and the mention was Wilson. Jim had heard a rumor that they are going to go fight the very next day. When he tells the others in camp they all get really excited and nervous. Henry hasn't yet fought in a real fire fight. He is nervous and starts to remember what his mother said to him and how he felt like a hero when he was enlisting. Then he starts to question his courage and what he would do in a fire fight.
And my question is: Is the youth and the loud man the same people as Henry and Wilson?
